Electric car charging points arrive in Cheltenham

Cheltenham Borough Council has installed electric vehicle charging points in each of its multi-storey car parks.

The points have been installed with money from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF), topped up by funds collected from the Borough Council’s own staff parking charges.

It is hoped that they will encourage sustainable travel for council staff as well as local residents, making a small but positive contribution to air quality.

Cllr Chris Coleman, Cabinet Member for Clean and Green Environment, said: “It’s really positive that Cheltenham is offering the facilities to help people to make use of electric cars more easily. It’s important that we encourage sustainable travel and these new points are a step in the right direction in helping to reduce damage to our environment.

“We are also committed to staff green travel initiatives, so it’s great that we are able to offer public charging points that our staff can also use.”

Further charging points are planned for Cheltenham and details will be announced later in the year.
