Boston Borough Council lands solar windfall

A solar panel system on top of a local sports centre has earned Boston Borough Council £6,800 in the 14 weeks since it was switched on.

The 363-panel roof-mounted system, which cost £104,000, was installed on top of Princess Royal Sports Arena (PRSA) and went operational in June.

Between then and September 28 it generated £3,800 in Feed-in Tariff payments and £3,000 in energy savings.

The solar panels are just part of a greater energy efficiency package to also include the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex.

A 500kw biomass boiler is also planned for the PRSA, replacing costlier LPG, as the site is not on mains gas.

"I am pleased that the solar panels are living up to all expectations and generating cash for us. It all points to a great future for the PRSA,” said Council Leader, Cllr Peter Bedford.
