The sun rises on West Lancashire Borough Council’s solar plans
West Lancashire Borough Council has given the go ahead to plans to install solar panels on around 1,000 local authority homes.
The scheme was approved at an Extraordinary Council meeting on 15 September, when members voted in favour of investing up to £4.44m installing solar panels on selected Council properties.
The properties selected for solar panels have been chosen based on their orientation and roof size.
The Council will borrow the money to fund the solar panels scheme.
The project will be rolled out quickly with works starting in mid-October and complete before January 2016
“We are very excited about this project as it could be of great benefit to tenants struggling with fuel poverty, as well as reducing carbon emissions and helping to tackle climate change. It will also contribute to the UK’s renewable energy targets,” said Portfolio Holder for Housing, Cllr Jennifer Patterson.
